Privacy Policy

Version 2026-07-19 · last updated 19 July 2026

Who we are

ChargeSense ("we") provides solar-optimised electric vehicle charging for customers in New Zealand and Australia. This policy describes what we collect and why, in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and, for Australian customers, the Australian Privacy Principles. Contact us any time at contact@chargesense.app.

What we collect

• Account details: your email address and a hashed password. If you join the waitlist, the details you give us there (name, region, whether you have a Sigenergy system and a Tesla, and how your car charges at home).

• Sigenergy credentials: the mySigen login you provide, stored encrypted, used solely to read your system's data. We recommend inviting us as a separate View Only account rather than using your main login.

• Sigenergy system information: when you connect, Sigenergy provides your station's details — including its location, panel and battery capacity, and system configuration. We use the location and system size solely to generate your local solar forecast and operate the service. It is never shared, sold, or used for any other purpose.

• Tesla authorisation tokens: issued by Tesla when you approve access. We never see your Tesla password. Access is scoped to charging control and charge status only.

• Energy and vehicle data: power readings from your Sigenergy system, and from your vehicle its charge state, battery level, charging power and whether it is plugged in — retained to operate the service and show your history. We do not collect or store your vehicle's location.

What we don't do

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose other than operating and improving the service. Energy data can reveal household patterns — when you are home, when you sleep — so we treat it as personal information and protect it accordingly.

Support access

To diagnose problems — a car that won't charge, a system that won't connect — our staff can view your site's operational data: your settings, your charging decisions and their history, and your system's energy readings. We keep this to what troubleshooting requires, and every such access is logged against the staff member who made it.

Staff cannot read your mySigen password or your Tesla tokens through our support tools, and we do not sign in as you. If we change a setting on your site to help you, that change is recorded with a reason and attributed to us, not to you.

Storage and security

Data is stored with established cloud infrastructure providers on servers located outside New Zealand — currently in Australia. We require those providers to protect your information to standards comparable to the NZ Privacy Act 2020. If we move to a different provider or region we will update this policy.

Credentials and Tesla tokens are encrypted at rest with keys held separately from the database, so a database leak alone does not yield usable credentials. Dashboard access supports two-factor authentication, which we require for any change to your account.

Retention and deletion

When you cancel, your data is deleted automatically. Credentials and Tesla tokens are removed immediately and our access to your vehicle ends; remaining data, including energy history and backup copies, is purged within 30 days. Nothing is retained beyond what the law requires.

Your rights

Under the NZ Privacy Act 2020 or the Australian Privacy Principles (as applicable to you), you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time by emailing contact@chargesense.app. We will respond within 20 working days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (NZ) or the OAIC (Australia).

Changes

If we change this policy materially we will email you and publish the new version here before it takes effect.
